Salary: $12-$15/hour depending upon the skill. (Includes Prep work and cleaning afterwards.) Please note that the average spa industry rate is $8-$15/hour.
Criteria for the Position
- Student must be comfortable touching male and female clients to perform body treatments, such as applying oils, packs and masks, as well as providing massages.
- Use steam tent and work in teams of two to offer two-person synchronized therapies
- Positive energy and holistic approach is essential
- Since Ayurveda is new to the Pittsburgh region, we ask technicians to consider this job as extra income source or supplemental income
Training Schedule
18 hours (hands-on training) and 4–10 hours (practice sessions)
Week 1 - Learning Panchakarma
Your training will include learning about Abhyanga, a full body oil application with Ayurvedic massage treatment, which encompasses:
- Head Massage (Shiro Abhyanga)
- Face massage (Mukha Abhyanga)
- Foot Massage (Pada Abhyanga)
- Front of the body (Chest and Belly massage)
- Back massage (Kundalini Abhyanga)
Week 2 - Holistic Wellness Spa Therapies
- Students will practice on each other and can take between 2-5 days, 2-3 hours each day (4-10 hours total) until they build confidence.
- Dr. Lina will then will review each student’s skills by receiving the therapy or by watching a student perform on the model.
Holistic Wellness Spa Therapies include:
- Shiro Dhara - Warm oil poured on third eye
- Netra Basti - Eye rejuvenation
- Nabhi Basti - Digestion improvement
- Kati Basti - Low back therapy
We will also train you to apply oil and herbal steam treatments. Face packs and body masks will be covered in two additional sessions that will be scheduled later.
Hours of Availability
Upon successful completion of your course, Ayurveda Wellness Center & Holistic Spa will hire students as independent contractors. We offer body treatments from 9am-5pm, 7days/week. As a technician, you may work 1-5 days per week, either part-time or full-time. We will assign you to one of our two rooms according to your availability.
Part-Time: Includes prep work and clean up.
- 9am-1pm (morning shift)
- 1pm-4pm (afternoon shift)
- 5pm-9pm (evening shift, upon availability of technicians)
- Weekend shifts are available with the same timeframes as mentioned above
Full-Time
- 9am-4pm (with noon-1pm lunch break)
